Global Packet Radio System (GPRS)
GPRS data is favoured by most M2M applications. With only a handful of exceptions throughout the world ,where there is GSM coverage, the GPRS data service is available.
Using GPRS data connections gives the lowest cost per byte for data transmitted over the cellular networks. Eseye provides extensive support for development of M2M applications using GPRS data and end users .
Data sent using GPRS across the Mobile Network is bridged onto the internet at the Eseye APN. At the APN, Eseye count the data usage, and the country / network that the remote device is using.
GPRS data is charged on a per-byte basis, so the amount of data a device has transmitted is important to our customers. Uniquely, Eseye makes the data count available in real time to customers.
During the development phase of their projects, customers are interested to understand in detail when, and where, their devices are communicating. Eseye allows customers to flag their connection for extra analysis, and view tetailed logs of the amount of data listed against the IP address that it was being sent to. Using this information, customers typically save between 15% and 20% of the amount of data sent with corresponding savings in cost, and improvement in battery life. In one extreme case, an application was found to be mis-configured, and the data use was reduced by 94%.
