Short Message Service (SMS)
Where small amounts of data are to be sent very infrequently, the GSM Short Message Service, popularly known as ‘a text’ is ideal. Although expensive per byte, The Short message system is remarkably easy to use, and allows Human readable messages to be sent either to a handset, a cellular modem connected to a computer or to an SMS gateway.
Similarly, the Short Message Service can be used to control remote devices either by sending a ‘text’ from a handset, or by using an SMS gateway.
Eseye runs a fully bidirectional SMS gateway service on its own SMSC. This makes it is possible to submit messages to be sent over the internet, and the SMS gateway will use the appropriate Mobile Operator to deliver the message to the device, Alternatively if the remote device Sends an SMS to the gateway number, the message will be stored for collection over the internet, either by secure FTP, https or MySQL access.
Eseye is also able to offer the use of its SMSC (Short Message Service Centre). This allows real time monitoring of the number of messages sent and a full audit trail of message delivery. Where the application uses the Mobile Operator’s public SMSC, reporting of messages sent may be delayed by up to 24 hours.
