Guildford, UK, 28th July 2015 – We are pleased to announce that the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama recently visited the team at M-KOPA highlighting the importance of the solution.
M-KOPA is the global leader of “pay-as-you-go” energy for off-grid customers and Eseye has been the company’s design and development partner for many years. The relationship continues with Eseye providing services related to technical expertise at device level and managed connectivity for the M-KOPA devices using Safaricom and other mobile networks.
Over the last few years, M-KOPA has connected more than 200,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to solar power, and is said to be adding over 500 new connected homes each day.
“Having been part of M-KOPA’s journey from the onset, we very pleased that they are attracting the deserved attention of prominent figures including Barack Obama. The connected solution we have helped them create is making a true difference to populations outside the electricity grid in Kenya and elsewhere. Social and financial inclusion through innovative technology are just two of the great aspects of the Internet of Things brought to life in the M-KOPA device”. Ian Marsden, Eseye CTO.
Here’s what Stephen McConnell, President Barack Obama’s Presidential Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship had to say about M-KOPA: “I congratulate you on the success, obviously it’s still early days what can happen over the next five to ten years in the three countries you are in, let alone other countries you might expand to, really can be powerful in terms of transforming peoples’ lives, the customers you are serving and also being one of the iconic companies that really does demonstrate that Africa is open for business, and it’s not just companies like Google or Facebook in Silicon Valley its companies like M-KOPA in Nairobi”.
